West Bend's historic Hangartner Building (or Centrum Building) was originally designed as an Opera House. Construction was completed in 1893, led by a wealthy Fond du Lac farmer, Conrad Hangartner. (Hence, how the building became known as the 'Hangartner Building.')
During a devastating fire in 1930, the third floor and attic, which had originally been used as an opera house and, later, for high school basketball games, was entirely lost to the fire.
The building has been extensively renovated to create modern office spaces in the heart of downtown West Bend.
